Brand New

I like this song a lot. I don't claim to know a lot about the singer or the band or the meaning behind all of it. Brooke and Ian have talked to me about it before. For me, the song just represents the questions that people can have about Jesus and the whole message/history/truth/possibility of it. It just seems authentic in a way that some things aren't.

Here is a clip, but it might only play 30 seconds if you aren't logged into the site.

Here's a video (just so you can hear the whole song - I don't think all the lyrics are correct, but I tried to look them up and every site says something different)...

My attempt at piecing together words...

I am inadequate at fully conveying my thoughts and emotions in a situation like this, but I have a few things to say that I hope will make some sense.

I wish I could find the words to express my heartfelt grief and disgust at the homophobia in our nation. It is perpetuated by media at times, by parents, by individuals and even (although as a Christian I hate to admit it) by the church. The church is even possibly one of the strongest leaders of this homophobic thinking. I believe that is wrong on many levels.

"Pre-meditated Hate Crime." That's what they are calling it.

Jesus, I'm ready to go home. And I want to take everyone with me. It breaks my heart. What can I do? I want to help.

Teacher vs. Parent

This is a PostSecret from this week and a comment that was sent to Frank about the PostSecret...

"Our children are our lives and we're in your classroom because we know how little some of you really care about them and about us. Our little secret? We don't trust you with our children unless we're keeping an eye on you."

I sincerely hope to be the kind of teacher who is genuinely a blessing to the child and the parent. I know you can't please everyone and I understand the responsibility that comes with being a teacher for other people's children. This whole thing just made me sad. I hate that a teacher sent in that PostSecret and I hate that a parent had to say that back.

Sad.

Subsidized Story Time is back!!!

We are hiring for Travis' position at work. Susan and I have been conducting interviews all day. Travis sent us an email to give us commentary on his thoughts of the interviewees so far. It is long, but WELL worth the read.

All names and recognizable features have been changed to protect the innocent...

Let me begin by recognizing what a fabulous job you have done already… you are two examples of why this country is great, we single handedly have the ability to meet and/or hear about someone and discern everything about them, their motives and how much we dislike them from that single meeting! Amazing! And what’s even better is America as a whole has never been wrong a single time about the perceptions of anything. Thus is why I feel so confident in my reviews of today’s applicants, because as an American citizen (these colors don’t run by the way) I am incapable of being wrong… ever.

This morning I intentionally dropped a nickel within plain sight in the front office area where each applicant would be entering the office… here is what I found.

No one even noticed. Which can mean a number of things…

1. They are selfless people who care nothing about personal wealth, which will be a plus because we can pay them low wages for grueling hours and if they complain we can reference their selflessness and then they will feel bad and take on more work and even less pay. We will then take the money we save and either give it to the needy or by plasma screens.

2. It could mean that they are going to sneak in here later and snag that nickel. This means they are backstabbing underhanded crooks, which can go two ways. This could be an obvious bad thing because they will steal office supplies and people’s lunch money. It could be a good thing because they could steal tenants from our competitors, so what we lose in office supplies and lunch money we more than gain in cold hard business!

3. This could mean that all the applicants were blind, in which case we have to hire them all or we will get sued.

4. This could mean they are not familiar with American currency which makes them one of the following:

A communist
A terrorist
Canadian
Lame

All of which are reasons not to hire them and ample excuses to plot to destroy them all before they destroy us.

Beyond my nickel experiment I have little to base my evaluations on except conversations I imagined having with each applicant as they waited in silence. I will now chronicle those conversations…

Interviewee #1- She was sooooo nervous OMG. She told me all about her weekend and we discussed what her power colors are… notice she did not wear blue… big mistake.

Interviewee #2- She told the greatest story about jet skiing I have ever heard, ask her about it.

Interviewee #3- She asked me to call her DJ… apparently she has a weird obsession with Full House.

Interviewee #4- She joined the peace corp straight out of college (Berkley) and now seeks to be an Admin? Yeah right, totally a spy.

Whelp that about wraps it up. I will let you know if I recall anything else. Here is to a productive search tomorrow!

Save Downtown Lexington

Pictures from The Dame's myspace

So I just heard about this through a Facebook group, but I am completely not in favor. The Equestrian Games are really an awesome thing to come to Lexington, but I don't think we should sacrifice everything for it. Obviously we're building up and out everywhere else. Why do we have to tear stuff up downtown?

I don't know all the details, but here's a link. If you live in Lexington, you should be opposed as well.

Evidently there is a meeting on March 4.

Gary Busey, what's up?

One more Oscar video.

Gary Busey got all upset with Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet.

What the heck?

Baby Names (for Diana's enjoyment)

My friend Diana sent me links to all these sites:
SSA Popular Baby Names
Behind the Name
Hippie Style Baby Names
Nymbler

She is all about baby names. And she kind-of gets me all about them too. I wish that would go the other way with my Buffy obsession because then we would just really be the same person. Oh well.

I'm going to share with you a highly guarded secret...Lewis & I have picked out our baby names. But we don't totally have middle names yet and just in case we have 2 boys or 2 girls, we need to have alternates, so I still look. But here are the 2 we know for sure...

For a girl: Scarlett
For a boy: Gage

Sssssshhhhhh! And DON'T TAKE THEM!! I'm telling you, if you name your kid that, it does not threaten me and I will name my kid that because I just claimed them as my own!! And if you don't like them, then whatever. Better for me.

But here are more that I like...(these don't have Lewis' approval yet)

Selah
Jude
Aria
Haven (middle name)
Jet (middle name)
Sienna (middle name)

Sunday Movies

And I've decided after watching the Oscars that I really need to see more movies. I've been all about tv shows lately and I've missed out on all these movies!!!

So I'm starting Sunday Movies. All are invited!! Sundays at a matinee showing at Lexington Green, I'm going to see indie movies. And when I run out of those or there aren't any I want to see, I'll go to Fayette Mall and see regular movies. Sundays around noon or 2 I will be going to see movies!! If you go to Lexington Green during the day it's like $3 for a movie ticket!!

Let's do it!!

This Sunday: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly or Penelope if it's out around here.

Courtney picked Cate Blanchett

(By the way, all pictures are from JustJared. It's just easier to give one general link to his blog. Check it out!!)

Twilight, Stephenie Meyer, Upcoming Movie, etc.

I have things to say.

1st of all - Breaking Dawn, the 4th book in the Twilight series will be released at 12:01 am on August 2, 2008. Yay!!!! I will be there.

2nd - Actors have been cast for the upcoming Twilight movie. According to IMDB, the movie will be released in December 2008. Robert Pattinson will be playing Edward. He played Cedric in the Harry Potter movies. I'm sorry, but I don't agree with that casting. Kristen Stewart will be playing Bella. I am okay with that. Based on the pictures on Stephenie Meyer's website, I will definitely be upholding my prior oath to NOT go see the movie. It looks super cheesy and not only do I think they won't do the books justice (because it's just impossible), but I think they will just kill the overall public view of the books from people who haven't read them. That makes me sad. And I'm just not all about going to watch a movie that I know has no possible potential of being what I want it to be.

This is supposed to be the Cullen family.

Look how cheesy...OMG.

AI Top 12 Guys

Here are my thoughts...the rest of you either didn't make an impression or I don't think you'll last through to next week.

Don't argue with the judges. Just take it like a man and come back next week and do better. I think they have a little more credibility than you do at this point. That's why they're the judges. It's just tacky when you argue.

You're fabulous. Keep doing exactly what you're doing. You're a star.

I could see you with you're own cd and performing at a concert. I think you're great.

Shave the trash 'stache. And open up a little.

You're doing okay. Don't straighten your hair.

OMG I want to put you in my pocket. You are so cute and I think you're wonderful. You'll be a star no matter what because people just love you.

I liked your Elvis song. And I like you.

And here's my #1 piece of advice:
DO NOT SIGN FOR US WHAT YOUR NUMBER IS TO VOTE FOR YOU. WE SAW IT ON THE SCREEN ALL THROUGH YOUR PERFORMANCE, RYAN JUST TOLD US AGAIN. WE DO NOT NEED YOU TO FLASH UP THERE WITH YOUR HANDS WHAT YOUR NUMBER IS. IF YOU DO THAT, I WON'T VOTE FOR YOU. UNLESS YOU ARE DAVID ARCHULETA BECAUSE YOU ARE A DOLL.

Big Day part 2

If I'd known it would have caused such a stir, I probably wouldn't have posted that last blog. haha.
(There are no comments, but my cell phone rang and was texted all day with questions.)

I think it's okay now to say what's going on! haha!

Peter & Morganne are expecting!!
My friend Amanda is expecting!!
Emily & Chris got engaged!!
And Travis got a fabulous new job!!

Yay for everybody!!!!!

Big Day!!

So today was just a normal day, even borderline crappy Monday for me.

But it was a big day for a bunch of my friends...or at least the day I found out about their big news.

I won't be the one to share because they can share if they want with everyone.

But...CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

You know who you all are.

(There are 6 of you! Wow!)

Some of my favorite scenes in movies...

Almost Famous - Tiny Dancer

Elizabethtown - The Phonecall

Walk the Line - Folsom Prison audition

Kingdom of Heaven - Rise a Knight

300 - First Battle Scene

Also, you know, if you're in that kind of mood, I found a video of the sexiest movie kisses when I was looking for a video from Sweet Home Alabama, but I'm too embarrassed to post the actual video. Here's the link. haha.

Anyway, that's all I've got right now. We will continue this at a later date.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

I think Heath would have appreciated this.

He was in the middle of filming The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus when he died. The director and producers decided that they wanted to finish it and give credit to Heath for the work he had already done. Evidently there are 3 scenes in the movie where Heath's character falls through a mirror. What they are going to do in the movie is after each of those 3 scenes, his character will turn into a different actor. The film is evidently really creative and eccentric, so a move like this would fit perfectly with the whole feeling.

Those 3 actors who will be taking over at different parts during the movie are Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell.

What are your thoughts?

Deadpool

Image copied directly from JustJared.

Lewis & I are very excited. He is because he loves X-Men and he's always really liked Deadpool and I am because I think Ryan Reynolds is fabulous and I really like comic book movies.

Ryan Reynolds has been cast as Deadpool in the upcoming Wolverine movie.

Is it just me...

Or has Courtney Cox seemed really mean and shady since Friends?
Whatever. Dirt starts back on Sunday, March 2.

PostSecret 2-17-2008

I have comments this time...

This is totally me. I know exactly what I would say and exactly who I would thank. I have confidence that one day this will pay off for me... haha

My friend Diana told me the other day that one of the good things about me is that I never get down on myself for my weight or anything. I never really realized that I don't do that because I definitely think about it. I guess I just always figure that I know that I would rather eat what I want (within reason) and wear a size 6 or 8 than starve myself and stress about weight all the time to be a size 2. I just naturally am a size 6 or 8. But there are lots of girls who are naturally bigger or smaller than that. Wouldn't you rather just be comfortable and healthy rather than weight-obsessed and hungry all the time? There is no mold that fits everyone.

I believe that random acts of kindness can change your world.

I'm in a Gender & Women's Studies class this semester and we are studying homophobia and sexism right now. It bothers me that rights that I believe should be innate to everyone, no matter what, are withheld from certain groups. It's wrong. And I'm sorry.

I want to learn to sign. I'm going to be a teacher. I think this could come in handy one day. Maybe I'll never use it, but I think it would be good to know how. Anybody want to find classes and go with me?

This made me cry. I want to say thank you to Mrs. Crouch, Mrs. Sampson, Mr. Slone, Mrs. McGuire, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Meadows, Mrs. Looney, Mr. Mitchell, Mrs. Erena, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Schmidt, Mrs. Edwards, Mr. Edwards, Mr. Baker, Mr. Merz, Mr. Reddish & Mr. Massey. I remember. And I appreciate your sacrifice as teachers.

This really freaks me out. It's always kinda freaked me out the power that those in the medical profession hold. Their mistakes can permanently alter your life both positively and negatively. I think it is important we pray for those in the medical profession. They deserve our thoughts and prayers.

This reminds me of a friend of mine and recent events and the way some people handled their decisions about the future. It's your future. Grasp it with both hands and with your heart and mind open to possibility. You can always come back if need be.
