My Halloween Costume...

Sara Jane asked, so...this is the best picture I could find for my Halloween costume.

I will have on a long dress and I will be accompanied by 4 baby-dolls (white, black, and 2 asian).
(Oh and I plan on pooching my belly out as much as possible to be pregnant as well. It will be a food baby, but still...)

Lewis will be Brad Pitt. He'll carry one of the Asian ones around a lot.

I'll post pictures tomorrow!!

What are all of you being for Halloween??

In case you haven't already noticed, Trailer Addict is pretty much my new favorite thing. They've got trailers for everything! And you can embed them onto your site.

Trailer: Milk

Milk
Starring: Sean Penn, Emile Hirsch, Josh Brolin, James Franco

I think Sean Penn is fabulous and I think Gus Van Sant is also fabulous and combine that with the other incredible talent and I will definitely be seeing this movie. It's about Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California.

Will you be seeing it?

I just can't tell you enough how excited I am about this movie! I love Matthew Perry and Zac Efron and Leslie Mann! It's going to be great!

Watch the Behind the Scenes!!

Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This stemmed from this post by The Good Human. Check out the whole post for more info!!

Why Organic Produce: There are pesticides both on and in the fruits and vegetables that are not labeled "Organic" (remember to look for the Organic USDA label). "These chemicals have been shown to suppress the immune system, increase the risk of breast and other cancers, disrupt the hormonal system and do reproductive harm." (The Good Human)

I understand if you can't get everything organic or if you don't want to buy everything organic. So here is the list of fruits and vegetables that you DEFINITELY want to buy organic because they are higher in pesticide use and/or absorption (I got some of these from The Good Human and some from prior research):
Peaches
Pears
Green Beans
Apples
Squash
Strawberries
Raspberries
Spinach
Potatoes
Tomatoes
Sweet Bell Peppers
Celery
Nectarines
Cherries
Lettuce
Grapes (imported)

And these are the list of fruits and vegetables that you could feel comfortable buying NOT organic because they have less pesticide use and/or absorption (although only organic has NO pesticides):
Pineapples
Mangoes
Avocado
Bananas
Cauliflower
Watermelon
Kiwi Fruit
Brussel Sprouts
Eggplant
Blueberries
Radishes
Onion
Grapefruit
Asparagus
Cabbage
Broccoli
Eggplant

Trailer: Fast & the Furious 4

Fast and the Furious 4
Starring: Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez

The 4th installment in the series. I am personally VERY excited to have the original stars back. I am not so excited that it looks like it's less about the cars and more about making an action movie. We'll see.

Seth Green to Direct

Seth Green and his friend Hugh Sterbakov started a comic book called Freshmen about college Freshmen who gain superpowers and become superheroes. He is going to direct the film version of the comic book.

May sound silly to you, but as an avid Buffy fan, Oz being one of my favorite characters, I am willing to give it a shot!

Read more about it at FirstShowing.net!

High School Musical 3: Can I Have This Dance?

So I absolutely LOVED this movie. They're just good clean fun, like I've said before. There's nothing inappropriate about them (except possibly the fact that Vanessa Hudgen's dress almost comes up throughout this whole dance). But they're just really cute and happy and I love it! They are VERY cheesy, but that's why it's awesome!

I just wanted to post a video from it.

BahT

We watched this documentary at church on Sunday and I got this information and these links from the church. It's not even my words describing the sites. I just wanted to spread the word about this. I think so many times we get caught up in thinking about ourselves and dealing with American culture and we forget that even on our worst day, we are so blessed and we need to be aware and do what we can to help others.

The Sold Project
a documentary about the child sex industry in Thailand

Born into Brothels
a documentary about child slavery in Calcutta, India, as seen through the eyes of the children who experienced it. Each child is given a camera and taught how to use it and their pictures tell their story.

Invisible Children
a documentary that tells the story of boys in Uganda being hunted and recruited to fight in the country's brutal civil war.

The Price of Sugar
a film that documents the story of child slavery in the sugar cane fields of the Dominican Republic.

Love 146
work toward the abolition of child sex trafficking and exploitation through prevention and aftercare.

Ahava Kids
exists to rescue and care for young victims of child trafficking, enslavement and exploitation in the United States and throughout the world.

Ideal Bite Links

These are my favorite Ideal Bite posts in October:

Trailer: Australia

Australia
Starring: Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman

I am a Baz Luhrmann fan. I have loved all of his movies and will continue to see all of them no matter who they are starring and no matter what they are about. There are only a couple of directors or writers or producers that I would say that about. So I will definitely be seeing this movie even though I am not the biggest Nicole Kidman fan.

Do you think it looks good?

Trailer: Repo! The Genetic Opera

I realized I may never have posted a trailer for Repo!

So there you go!

Sarah Brightman in Repo! The Genetic Opera

CHASE THE MORNING

I like weird stuff and this movie may just be right up there with Sweeney Todd for me. We'll see. It has Giles in it from Buffy and Paris Hilton (ugh) and Sarah Brightman! Watch the clip and tell me what you think!

Beware of Greenwashing!

Eco-Chick posted about the dangers of Greenwashing in Beauty Products. So many companies now are claiming to have "green" or "natural" or "organic" products and it's just not true.
Many of them include products that are irritants, synthetic or animal-based and carcinogens. It's important to check before purchasing to make sure that what you are buying actually lives up to the standard they are claiming.

Check the Cosmetic Safety Database to see how natural or organic your products really are!

Some companies are really making an effort to maintain their standards. Check out Burt's Bees, Kiss my Face or these natural supply stores: Beautorium, Futurenatural, Kaia House

I have to agree with FirstShowing.net that it looks like a mix between Jumper and Heroes.

They mention the possible Oscar movies that haven't been released yet! I'm excited about them! They include:

Slumdog Millionaire, Australia, Milk, Frost/Nixon, Hunger, The Reader, Gran Torino, Doubt, Seven Pounds, The Wrestler, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Revolutionary Road, Valkyrie, Last Chance Harvey and Defiance

Trailer: Seven Pounds

Seven Pounds
Will Smith's new movie. Release date: December 19, 2008

Will Smith is one of my favorites. I think he has the ability to pull me into almost any movie (like Men in Black). I thought his performances in I Am Legend and The Pursuit of Happyness were fantastic and I think it looks like this one will be right up there.

What do you think? Are you interested in seeing it?

Just to Brighten Your Day

If this happens on Dancing With the Stars, I'll start watching! haha

Thanks, Sara for the tip!

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

I wasn't really excited when I heard about the 3rd Underworld movie because it didn't have Kate Beckinsale or Scott Speedman in it. I don't usually like when there are sequels that don't have the main people. But then I watched the trailer! It's a prequel and it actually looks alright! I'm more excited about it now! It will be released in January 2009.

AirPod: I Want One!!

I want one of these! I've wanted an air purifier for a while now, but this one is eco-friendly and looks awesome! According to their website, the AirPod uses:

» Less material. The AirPod uses approximately 60% less material than air purifiers
with comparable performance.
» Less energy. The AirPod uses 85% less energy than units with comparable
efficiency and delivers clean air at the rate 8 CADR per watt—four times the
2 CADR per watt standard recently set by ENERGY STAR.
» Less packaging. The more compact the product, the more compact the box it
comes in. The box is 50 % smaller than units with comparable performance.
» Less environmental impact. All components are 100% recyclable, including the
packaging.

Right this second...

This is a post I scheduled just to let you know that at this very moment I am sitting in a theater enjoying High School Musical 3!!!

Good clean fun, people! Good clean fun!

My To Do List for the Coming Month

This is my list of things I need to do within the month. Hold me accountable to it!!

1. Buy some reusable water bottles, a tap filter and stop buying bottled water!

2. Buy some Baggu reusable shopping bags so I can stop using plastic bags.

3. Recycle the magazines, paper and plastic bottles in my house.

Great Plastic Garbage Patch

(The big white spot labeled "E" is the garbage patch. Click here for the full page.)

The Great Plastic Garbage Patch is a large mass of trash that is about the size of Texas and contains 3.5 million tons of trash. It is located in the northern Pacific Ocean.

I don't know about you, but I find this to be an undeniable reason to reduce your plastic consumption. Several easy ways to do this immediately would be to stop buying bottled water and start using reusable glass or other types of bottles filled with filtered tap water, stop using plastic bags at the grocery and request a paper bag or bring your own!

The Good Human posted about 10 Ways to Reduce Plastic Consumption. I highly recommend you read it and start thinking about how your actions affect the world around you. Every little bit helps! Get informed and do what you can!

Blog into iPhone App??

ProBlogger posted this and I'm very interested! Not that I think that many people would download it or anything, but I think it's cool!!!

AppLoop will turn any RSS feed into an iPhone application!!

Bottled Water - Not so pure

EWG (Environmental Working Group) posted the results of an investigation into bottled water where they found cancer-causing contaminants and fertilizer residue among other things in the bottled water. Unlike with tap water where the water company is required to release the results of testing on the water regularly, bottled water companies do not have to release any information about the testing of their water.

A safer alternative would be filtered, unfluoridated tap water. Read it for yourself and check out EWG's Guide to Safe Drinking Water! You can get reusable bottles to keep your filtered tap water in here and they are NOT plastic!! (Which is awesome...more on that later...)

17 Again Trailer

I keep track of what all the Friends actors are doing and I've been waiting to see a trailer for this movie for months now! It has Matthew Perry, Zac Efron, Michelle Trachtenberg, Leslie Mann and others. I'm excited!!!!

20 Pop Culture Hits...

Entertainment Weekly has a list of 20 Pop Culture Hits We Couldn't Pay You To See.

Buffy, Twilight, The Godfather, ET, The Goonies, 300, The Sound of Music and Friends are all on the list - among others. But they watch Gossip Girl. What in the world?

I'm interested in your thoughts on who made the list and who didn't. Check it out!

Green Magazine: Coco Eco

I'm interested in this magazine! I want to see one!!

Coco Eco is a green fashion magazine. Check out these links for more information on the mag!

Heath Ledger in Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus

This is the first official photo of Heath Ledger in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, his final movie role. Throughout the course of the movie, Heath's character falls through a magic mirror 4 times and what they have done since his death is cast Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell to each play the person he is transformed into after these falls. The movie is directed by Terry Gilliam who also directed Monty Python and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I am excited about this movie and sad at the same time.

Also, special tidbit, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law all donated their earnings from the movie to Heath's daughter Matilda. They will not be making any money from their performances in the movie.

The Natural Child - Book Review

The Good Human posted a book review of The Natural Child: Parenting From the Heart by Jan Hunt.

I'm definitely interested in reading this book when it comes time for babies! Has anyone read it? Have any thoughts? Anyone interested in reading it?

Buy The Natural Child here!

A 4th Bourne Movie

Universal Pictures has hired a writer for the 4th Bourne movie and it will not be based on the novels anymore. Matt Damon will also be back for the 4th installment.

Who else is excited about this??

McCain on Letterman

I didn't watch it, but apparently McCain gracefully made an appearance on the David Letterman show after "snubbing" him in September. He says he "screwed up."

I'm happy when the candidates can laugh at themselves and just deal with things.

The U.N. calling for a reduction in Meat Consumption

This is taken directly from the September Good Foods Coop newsletter.

Our appetite for steaks and burgers is a huge contributor to global warming. So it turns out that meatless Fridays, which for generations inflicted fish sticks and tuna casseroles on millions of school-age children, Catholic and otherwise, were actually saving the planet. The United Nations is now urging wealthy nations to make a dramatic shift in eating habits, saying the best way to curb climate change is for people to go at least one day a week without meat.

And Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change -- which shared the Nobel Peace Prize last year -- isn't just asking diners to bypass a burger now and then. After achieving a weekly day without meat, he said, they should embark on a progressive reduction of their meat intake.

The problem isn't so much with hamburger patties as it is with cow patties. Meat production accounts for nearly a fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions, according to the United Nations. Cows and other ruminants, such as sheep and goats, release methane and nitrous oxide in amounts that put to shame the carbon dioxide belched out by cars. In fact, a red-meat-eater in a Prius is probably hurting the environment more than a vegan in a Hummer.

The U.N. also is calling for governments to launch campaigns to reduce meat eating. If they do, such efforts will probably start in Europe, then sweep through every city, town, village and hamlet in Asia, Africa, Australia and Antarctica before the U.S. Department of Agriculture stops propagandizing on behalf of meat without any regard for human or environmental health.
Which brings us back to individual abstinence. We're not calling for a vegan revolution, but this page has noted that a sincere personal effort to fight global warming must include a reduction in eating red meat. Were fish sticks on Fridays really that bad?

(Thanks, Peter, for the tip!)

World of Warcraft Movie in the works?

According to FirstShowing.net, there is a World of Warcraft movie in the works. I know my husband will probably see it (which means I probably will too).

Does anyone else play World of Warcraft and if so, what are your thoughts on a possible movie??
