Literary Tattoos

I would love to get another tattoo - or maybe 2 more. One of them I would like to have some sort of really significant meaning pertaining to my relationship with Christ. I have yet to find something that really strikes with me as the perfect one. The other one I would like would be something literary - from a book that has had meaning to me. This was not originally my idea. My friend Brooke has some fabulous ideas for new tattoos that she wants. I haven't decided yet what I would want or if I would definitely get one. But here are 2 sites that focus on literary tattoos. I think they're fabulous!

i love literary tattoos... maybe not one that is as long as the one in your picture...but when i get my first tattoo, it will be some type of scripture or piece of literature... i'm hoping to find my favorite scripture and have it written in the shape of a cross... i love them

Take this how you will but I stumbleb upon ur blog while doing research for a future tattoo... anyway I read that you want to get a tattoo that is "of really significant meaning pertaining to my relationship with Christ" this made me laugh. there is nothing that i dislike more than a double standard. what i mean is that from what u said i take it that ur a "christian", more like a cafeteria christian non the less, u speak of this relationship with christ but u disregard ur bible... as a christian u are not to have anymark on ur body other than the ones that u you had when you "came into this world" u should be removing the one that u have not adding to the collection. would you murder another human, would you steal from another? Im guessing that u answered both of those questions with a no, well why wouldn't you, besides the obvious that they are both crimes punishable by law? oh yeah, maybe because ur bible tells you that they are sins... right along with marking ur body, but eh who cares right its just sin... I dont in =tend to be rude just informative in my own little way, i jujst hate the fact that people will go after other fo what the "sins" they committ but don't examine themselves and will boast to the world with a straight face and swear that they are a "christian"

please post the scripture that you're referencing from. i would be happy to look at it specifically and then post my thoughts. there are several verses in the bible that people point to as arguments against tattoos. i would love to discuss your specific one and explain why i got my tattoos, even in accordance with my faith in and obedience to the bible. for discussion sake, i'll need a little more information on your point of view before we can go further.

I feel you did intend to be rude otherwise you wouldn't have said anything, but alas, it is your right to speak your mind in this country. When it comes to things punishable by law, in certain parts of the everything you just said warrants having your hands cut off and drug through the street by wild goats. If you can't see the world has changed considerably since the Bible was written, you're just flat out ignorant. It's more about your faith and belief in God that matters. If you want to follow everything to the T in the Bible, well, don't forget to sacrifice a lamb for passover.... Also, if you want to rip on someone, try the scientologists because I'm sure you can find more of an argument with them

I hope that you don't mind my commenting... I ran across your blog searching for a picture similar to what you posted in this entry. :)

The verse Cianna might be referring to is Leviticus 19:28.

"Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD."

This is found in Leviticus, which is the old law. If you were strictly Jewish, this law would still apply to you. But you're Protestant, and you mentioned that you wanted to get your tattoo to symbolize your dedication to Christ.

As Christians, the law we live our lives by comes from Christ. Thanks to Jesus' sacrifice, the old law is gone, and His new salvation was put in its place.

Also, much of the law in the Old Testament was put in place to ensure the morals of the Jews and ensure their safety. If you read more through Leviticus 19, there's a lot of information that's kind of "duh," because we still follow it. But other stuff sounds kind of weird. Go ahead and read it. You'll see what I mean.

I'll even give you a link. :)

I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that while the entire Bible is important as a complete work inspired by God, a lot of the old law has been overturned by Christ's sacrifice.

Cianna, no one is perfect. Christians aren't perfect. We're striving to be followers of Christ, but we're still flawed and human. You may not agree with things we choose to do, but that's alright. If what we choose to do doesn't sound like it's right for you, by all means, don't do it! Just understand that throwing a fit isn't going to change a mind.

If you have any more questions or arguments, you can ask. I'll try to answer anything that I can.

Erin, I must agree with you that much of the Old Testament is just Jewish law and tradition rather than "God's Law". I feel that Ciana did intend to be rude or at least snide about it for why else would she need to so blatanly need to assume she knows Cameron. I can not believe she had the audacity to assume that she knew that Cameron "disregared her bible". Getting a tattoo does not mean you disregard the bible. There are many passages in the bible that are more about old laws than "moral" law. There is more and more evidence of the bible being altered since it was first written so how do we even know we are upholding what the true standards originally were? I have read your blog, Ciana, and I am sorry if I seem "blatant", but you kinda seem like you have your nose turned up to everyone you think has a double standard. She never said she upholds every aspect of the Bible or that she believes in every single word, even the old laws. She said she was getting a tatto that symbolizes her love for Christ. And you know, I think that is pretty freaking awesome. So basically I think I am just trying to say to you, Ciana, to get off your high horse. And Cameron, getting a tattoo to symbolize your love to God is an amazing idea. Because if you are willing to put a symbol on your body that is permanent (unless you laser it) then I think that proves you really love God. Because you are believing that you will for the rest of your life love him as much as you do now. So, just keep believing and don't take the hard words of someone who thinks she is so amazing that she doesn't have any double standards. :-)
