EcoSalon wrote this post called "What if Everybody Ate Like Americans?" In general, the answer is: they can't. But read the post to get some interesting info. I've thought for a while about the industrialization of the meat production in our country. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you've read my thoughts on it before. EcoSalon also talks about our calorie and salt intake. It's really disgusting how much we consume. It's really not even an issue of being environmentally conscious as much as it's an issue of being healthy and socially conscious. We stuff ourselves with more than our bodies even need and neglect the people and countries around us who are trying to find or afford food to just function.
It's just an interesting concept to research more on your own.

Thanks for the plug, Cameron. :)
It is a fascinating subject. There's also something we didn't touch on in the article - the neurological aspects of constantly having too much food in your stomach. Digesting food takes energy. Personally I really notice a difference in my levels of concentration and energy when I have an empty stomach - coupled with that sluggish feeling that comes after a really big meal. If a diet gives you too much food all the time, it must affect how well you can think throughout the whole day....
Anyway yes, fascinating topic. :)
