Previously on Lost

So, to keep everyone fresh on lost, even when the season is over, every Thursday I want to blog about Lost. If you are like me, you probably have noticed several biblical references in the show. These parallels are what interests me the most in the show. The following is taken from lostpedia.com:

Biblical References in regards to Jacob
-Jacob is a great-great-grandfather of Aaron (elder brother of Moses)
-Jacob married Rachel, who was apparently barren, but later amazingly gave birth to Joseph and Benjamin .She died whilst giving birth to Benjamin
-Another name for Tribulation is "The Time of Jacob's Trouble" Jeremiah 30:5-7
The tribe of Benjamin's women and children were all killed, and the remaining members of the tribe could not longer proliferate. The historical solution they came up with was to kill the men from another sub-tribe and take their women and children. Women are unable to carry to term on the Island, and the Others have been taking women and children from Oceanic Flight 815.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Movie Review

I'm going to make this short as I possibly can considering how passionately I felt about what had happened in the last 2 hours of my life after seeing this movie and I'm going to ruin the movie for you, so if you're REALLY hell-bent on seeing the movie and don't want any spoilers, then don't read this...

It's Indiana Jones vs. Aliens. Aliens!!!!! OMG. I have several good things to say:

1. Harrison Ford does not make a fool out of himself. I was nervous that it was going to be embarrassing because he is so old now, but it was not.
2. Shia LaBeouf is funny as always, although there is a scene where he is swinging in trees with these anti-Communist monkeys. Not the greatest plot line if you ask me.
3. The movie itself is great, like the cinematography and all that. It's action-packed, it's adventure, it's all those kinds of things.

But...

IT'S INDIANA JONES VS. ALIENS!!!

I mean, come on. What in the world does that have to do with archeology? Trying to make an alien landing correspond to the Aztecs? That's just not Indiana Jones. Give me the ark of the covenant (IJ & the Raiders of the Lost Ark), give me the cult rituals in the Temple of Doom, give me the search for the Holy Grail (IJ & the Last Crusade), but for the love of all that is good and holy, DO NOT bring aliens into the picture!! It killed it for me. And in the end when he pops that crystal alien skull back on the skeleton and then it comes to life, the room starts spinning, and the flying saucer shoots out into space, I just wanted to cry because it was so far below what it could have been.

Honestly, rent National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets - you'll have the same search for a hidden city made completely of gold and it's actually much better.

And if you're really interested in seeing some old geezer come back from the 80's/90's to suck out all the money he can from the popularity of his first movies, rent Rocky Balboa because it actually closed the Rocky series out on an excellent note as opposed to this which just was preposterous.

(I bet there are even a couple of people who think I'm joking about this. No, I'm not. It's about aliens.)

Join the Debate

"We already have a savior. We can't look for our president to be a governmental Jesus."

I love this quote.

Petie is a friend of a friend and I read his blog from time to time. I really think any of you who are Christians and trying to sort out the big "who to vote for" question this coming November, go to his blog to read some of the different posts and conversation that has sparked. I'm not totally done reading all of it yet. I just want to go ahead and share it.

Honestly, I just love the conversation.

Lost Theories with Travis

I emailed my friend Travis today to find out his Lost Theories and I loved what he had to say, so I want to share it with you and see what you think!!

I think [Jacob] could be Alvar Hanso. He has been on the show since season two and has not spoken... We have only seen pictures of him and heard references to him...

I would also like to throw in that I think there will be a dramatic scene tomorrow night where Sawyer chooses to get off the helicopter as it flies to safety.

As for moving the Island... I think there is a deeper meaning to the word Island- I think it doesn’t necessarily mean the land mass- I think we are going to start to see the essence of the Island... Remember in the red haired chick from the Boats flashback we see her uncovering one of the polar bears in the middle of the desert... I think the concept of the Island is bigger than we assume it is.

All in all this show is f’ing crazy and makes my mind hurt. I want the following things to happen...

John Locke to kill all bad guys with a knife.

Walt to do something scary.

Jack to not be a drunk.

Kate to never talk again.

Hurley to be happy.

Charlie to be alive.

Claire to stay disappeared.

Jack’s dad to make sense.

Ben to have his eyes de-bulged.

That is all.

New blogger!!!

Okay, this is a really big deal for me because I'm pretty particular about my blog.

My friend Brooke is now going to be blogging with me! She will mainly be writing about books because she is an English major in college, but she might possibly expand her writing topics.

Be looking for some posts by Brooke!!

Big Love moved to the Fall

HBO has moved Big Love's 3rd season to the Fall 2008 as a result of the Writer's Strike. I'm happy it's coming back, but that is one of the only shows I usually watch in the summer!! That stinks!!

In Memory of Maria

I'm not sure the best way to put words to this and give it the respect it deserves, but I was overwhelmed when I found out about this and I wanted to share it with you if only to request your prayers as well for the Chapman family and friends. I cannot imagine the grief associated with this loss.

I will quote from this site which was set up by Steven Curtis Chapman's manager. Click here for more and for a video of Maria.

"Maria Sue Chapman, adopted and youngest daughter to Mary Beth and Steven Curtis Chapman, was killed Wednesday night in a tragic accident in the family driveway on Wednesday evening. She was LifeFlighted to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital but for only reasons God can explain she went home to Him... not to Franklin as we all so desperately wanted."
