Maternity Pictures!!!

My friend Hannah McNamara took these pictures of us today! I think she did an absolutely amazing job!!! I could not be any happier with them!! I just think they are fantastic!!! There are about 100 of them in all, but I picked a few of my faves!!

Chosen Design

When Lewis' band went on tour a couple of years ago, we stayed with a family and their friends in Sonora, California. Nina and Ryan were the couple that Lewis and I stayed with. They were absolutely amazing. They were and are such an encouragement to know! They are now my friends on Facebook and I saw that Nina started a shop on Etsy called Chosen Design. She makes adorable - and super cool - onesies!! Check them out here! I definitely plan on buying at least one if not more! I think they're awesome!!

New Blog!!

So I've started a new blog - a MOM blog! I probably won't post on it as much as this one - actually I'm sure I won't. It's more just for fun for me.

I've messaged Jaye to see if he would be interested in helping me do a cool logo & design similar to this one, but related to being a mom! I'm sure if he has time to help me, he'll come up with something awesome just like this one!!

Green Generation

I thought this CBS video was really interesting. As a future teacher, I definitely think it's important to educate children on the importance of being aware of our affect on the environment. While I don't think it's necessary to push the political agenda that some environmentalists have, it's just important that they know that they have an influence on their world. Recycling and turning off the lights and eating healthy are all ways that children can be aware and helpful in the conservation of their environment.

Attention Future or Current Teachers and Parents

I get a surprising amount of weird questions or ridicule simply because I have a blog. People act like it's a ridiculous thing or that it's silly or that I'm a part of something that not a lot of people do. Once you start to investigate and read blogs and be a part of the blogging community, you find that is far from the truth. Our culture and world as a whole are continuously moving further and further toward greater and more intricate technologies in all aspects of our lives. You can have whatever opinion you want about the growing use of technology, but the fact is, if you're going to participate in society in the future, you're going to have to be able to use these technologies - if for no other reason than to keep up with your children, grandchildren or students. I watched one of these videos in class the other day and I found the other on LifeChurch.tv. Check them out for yourself!

Choosing Vegetarianism as a Future Parent

Lewis and I haven't eaten red meat since July. It's surprising how much I don't miss it. I thought that it would be really difficult for me to go without a cheeseburger or a steak or some Hamburger Helper every once in a while, but it's really not. I've replaced the meat in my chili with some extra beans and the meat in my spaghetti with spinach. It's much easier than it sounds, especially considering I really love vegetables. In terms of white meat, we try to eat organic as much as possible. We usually just don't eat white meat, but if there is no other option, we'll eat regular white meat.

Because my best friend has 2 little girls, I think about kids all the time. I am always thinking about what kind of mother I want to be and the ways I want to parent. Lewis and I have decided already that we don't want to give our kids red meat at all. If they choose to eat it on their own as they get older, that's their decision, but we won't serve it at home. We also want to do the organic white meat with them, but I've been reading about vegetarianism in terms of your children and it's definitely safe and healthy and it would be an option. I don't think we will ever make the switch to absolute vegetarianism, but we will be limiting our meat intake as much as possible.

Many of you have probably heard of the book Eat This, Not That. I have not read it, but I do want to!! Now they have the version for parents that talks to them about what they should and shouldn't feed their kids! It's just encouraging parents about healthier alternatives for children.
